Miami Horror Bandinterview

After  Lily  Allen  now designer Hugo  Boss  gets  hold  of   Miami  Horror!  The  band  from  Melbourne  had  a  gig  at  Berlin-Mitte’s  Hugo  Boss store.  Read  the  interview  we  recorded  after  the  show  and  after  a  couple of drinks in the backroom of the shop, between  shelves  full  of  Hugo-shirts  and  suits. The band members are wearing Boss, of course, looking very chic. However, they changed clothes before we took them to Odessa bar. They’re a bit shamboed after their gig and several drinks and they’re all talking at the same time. About Lily Allen, girls, drugs, alcohol, Prince and Berlin.

How do you like your outfit?

MH: Well,I think Iam wearing a woman’s blouse.

(a bit lying) No way, it looks great on you!

MH: Thank you!

Guys, welcome to Berlin. MH: Why come to Berlin? Ah welcome. Haha, yeah, that’s better. I was living here in June, soaking in the atmosphere of the city. And I rode a bike!

 Yeah, many tourists do that.

MH: Oh really? (Start of a discussion on which side of the street you are supposed to drive at in Germany, Britain, Australia, Thailand? Cambodia! Uncertainty.)

I have seen you guys at Backyard the other day, haven’t I?

MH: Yeah, we stayed until three or something. Oh, didn’t you like it?

MH: Sure we did, a friend took us there. But three is quite late isn’t it?

Erm, not in Berlin. We are late night/morning people. MH: Ah, like in Spain. How do they survive? Do they nap?

I guess they all take drugs. All the time. MH: Really? What sort of drugs? Can you get these drugs? (laughter) Erm, no. Just kidding, it’s only, we are used to staying out late.

You are currently recoding a new album, right? MH: Honestly, we haven’t done anything so far. The thing is, a good album takes minimum two years. Most bands take at least two years, it’s not long.

You guys are going to move to L.A. in order to produce it, right? Why there?

MH: Something different. We have done Melbourne quite a bit. Why not Europe i.e.? MH: Well, many dudes go there. We wanted something different and profit of the crazy folks you find there. As an inspiration.

Where has the last album been „made“?

MH: In a multitude of bedrooms. (Short silence, everyone is thinking about this sentence. Then glasses clinging, cigarettes litting, cross talking, someone is singing even.)

Australians party and drink quite a lot, would you agree on that?

MH: Come on, Americans do, English people do.

But the ones I met seem to be very excessive when it come to partying... MH: Yeah, maybe you are right. You know, it is because all has to be shipped into the country. And the longer it takes the alcohol to get to you the more you will get crazy about it. This is why, probably. And it stays like that even when you leave the country.

That was funny. (Mutual laughter. The security guy shows up, telling us not to smoke.)

Not the ususal disco crowd but they liked it

You guys have been handpicked by Lily Allen!

MH: Ha, not really. She needed a band and asked her people which band would be cool. There were Bag Raiders and a few others and she was like „Miami Horrors are good looking“. We haven’t even met her before.

None of you hooked up with her? MH: My mum asked me to try, but..

If someone could handpick you who should that be? MH: Phoenix was quite cool. Prince? But why would he pick us. Erm, this is an imaginary question.

MH: Then Prince!

Then out of nothing: MH: You know we are really looking forward to spend some time spending at one place, not touring because we have done that fort he last couple of years. In a tour bus? HM: No, Australia is too big. It would take ages to get around.

(They start a discussion about how big Australia is compared to Germany.) MH: Maybe 30 times bigger. Yeah, Australia might be 30 times bigger than Germany. Germany is small, jesus. (Loud laughter, not on my side.)

What can we expect of that new album you are gonna start writing at?

MH: Definetely more guitars, more experimental sounds, straight synths, psychedelic sounds. Whatever that means.. Maybe a didgereedoo?

MH: Nooo (laughter) More like weird sounds that you make on acid.

On acid?

MH: On a synth! Maybe dolphins and stuff like that. Ah, yeah, we are looking forward to that.

And now please tell us how this cooperation with Hugo Boss came up?

MH: We did a tour earlier this year, the government gave us a grant but… we had a few more shows to do. So Hugo Boss came up and offered us a deal, to cover our expenses if we represent the brand, like, wear the clothes. This is quite nice, isn’t it? I like the suits. They’re awesome. Maybe too tight on you. MH: It’s because this is a women’s suit Iam wearing I guess.

We had that at the beginning, didn’t we?

The security guy shows up and asks us not to smoke. This is so not Rock’ n Roll!

A Boiling Room: Photos
Boiler Room at Stattbad Berlin Wedding last evening was the shit. Modeselektor burned the house with a bassline so loud, the police showed up: switching like mad from one style to another, giving people the climax with a late 90s smasher.
DJ Hell is everywhere man!
